So, I log onto wikipedia today, and I see two articles posted into the news sections:

To sum it up, so far fifty people have died from Katrina. That is a tragedy to be certain, and worthy of aid. But everywhere you go, you hear about it, everyone is talking about how we should help out the cause. And yet, six hundred people have died in Baghdad and I just heard about it right now. Perhaps it is just me, but I feel that six hundred Iraqi deaths are at least equally significant as the damage done by Katrina.

It could just be me, though.

Those people are too far outside of our monkeysphere, and since the US is a more influential power, things that affect us are more widely reported.

It's not just you, the sad fact is that americans care about americans except when it pleases them to stick their noses in someone else's business.. :(
